I want to get started in long range shooting and am wondering if there is any significant difference between the quality of the barreled actions of the 700P and the SPS. I plan on replacing the stock on the gun regardless of which one I get. Thanks for any advice.

Re: 700P vs SPS

Only real difference I know of is the finish. A bottle of Duracoat is $17. Same barrel, receiver and trigger, which you'll want to swap for an old version trigger or aftermarket anyway.

I plan on doing the same for my son in .223

Re: 700P vs SPS

I have a SPS-V in a MCM A-5 it will shoot 168 a-max to 1000. For the money it is hard too beat. If you like the longer barrel, it can be heavy in a heavy stock, but mine will shoot. You can always cut it down later if you like it shorter. If you are dumping the stock on a 700p you can get more money for it. The stock on the sps-v did not feel right for me at all, I gave it away.
