Ok, I just came into a quantity of 75gr Match ammo, but my AR is 1 in 9,, I want to be able to get decent accuracy out of both this AND 55gr, which barrel twist should I get ? Stay with 1 in 9 or get a 1 in 7 from White Oak..

Re: 75gr 5.56 question

i have a 1:9 twist ar that shoots 75 grain bullets very well some will not,any 1:8 or faster will definetly work.

Re: 75gr 5.56 question

My sps tac 1/9 shoots 77smk's very well out too 400M. Id say try it out.

Re: 75gr 5.56 question

My 24" 1:9 shoots 77 SMK's just fine as long as you push them (ie MK262 Mod 1). My handloads are running about 2775 fps. All you can do is try a few to see. By the way, I've had that gun out to 750 yards.

Re: 75gr 5.56 question

I have a 21" 1 in 10" twist Sig 556 DMR. It doesn't seem to care for Hornady's 75 gr match load, but I have a feeling that is more an issue of the ballistic properties of the bullet (rather than the twist rate) as it handles the 69 and 77 gr SMKs just fine.

Re: 75gr 5.56 question

I have a 1:8 twist on one of my Savages and on a Bushmaster AR. It to me is a happy medium. I use a 1:9 with 69gr. Sierras and get great reults.

Proof is in the pudding, take the thing out and shoot it.

Re: 75gr 5.56 question

I just loaded for a Bushamster V-Match (20" chrome lined barrel, 1-9") that I use mainly for coyote hunting. A load of processed brass/75gr H/24.0grs of varget/Br4 consistently shot 1.5" at 200yds. MV was 2685fps. I also shot 77mk's, 77gr Noslers, 68gr Hornady match, and 69mk's. It shot the 75h and 69mk much better than the rest. The 69mk shot tighter at 200yds w/ 748 but I have so many 75's tht I will sight it in with these.

I think it might do better/faster but for it's intended purpose is DONE.

I wondered if it would stabilize the heavier bullets but there was no key holing. I think if I pushed the 77's harder they might have shot better.
