I have become a big fan of Ramshot powders lately (X-terminator, Hunter, and TAC). Looking at burn rate charts, Big Game is listed right along side some of the most popular powders for 75gr and 80gr bullets in 223 Rem., however there is no published data for Big Game in 223 All other Ramshot powders I have used have been relatively tolerant of temperature and meter like a dream. Has anybody out there used this with any success in 223, specifically with heavy bullets? It looks like it should give good load density, and be the appropriate burn rate.

Re: 75gr A-max and Ramshot Big Game?

I only use TAC on 223 and 308 so I don't have any specific data for you. However, take a look at the 308 load data from Ramshot. It appears that Big Game requires more powder for a given chamber pressure in 308. Would it be possilb eto work up some loads in 223 starting way below what you know will be safe, and than working upward in 10% cuts using a chrony along each cut and also checking the brass for pressures?

I do find the tac to meter consistantly, more so than stick powder, but TAC is unbelievably dirty IMHO. I shot 75 rounds out of my Ar last week and was shocked when I removed the bolt, it looks like 100 miles of dirt road.

Re: 75gr A-max and Ramshot Big Game?

That is what I had been planning on doing when I looked at the burn rate charts. A few posts up a guy named Greg Langelius said he is doing the same thing and getting good results. I am not to worried about the dirty factor, I shoot a bolt gun, and they are a bit easier to clean then an AR.
The problem with TAC is it doesn't fill the case very well when I seat out to the lands, and I am not sure that I am getting consistent ignition. Plus the Big Game will overlap with my .243, and a 30-06 will probably be my next gun, which it also happens to overlap with.

I believe there densities are very similar, however since it is slower burning powder so I figured I would be able to put more in the case, and consequently have it more full.

I use the HDY 75gr HPBT Match (Moly) and 26.5gr(C*) of Ramshot Big Game (2.400" OAL) as a perfect match for the Sav 10fp .223 1:9" barrel. Mil brass, most any small match primer.
