Well i have a 7mm-08 currently and love it but something inside me wants to try a 7mm-08 ackley so i am wondering what peoples experiences are with this cartridge. it would be on a sako trg so i would have 2.95 oal available due to there long mags.

it would be a 9 twist to shoot the 162's and 168's

    thanks scott

From what I hear you don't pick up much at all with a AI on a 7mm-08.

My build specs are below. Here is my load data.

    162amax
    46.5g H4350
    Winchestor 308 cases necked down
    CCI200
    2.905 OAL
    2700fps even

I went with the 1 in 8 twist so I could run the 180s if I wanted.

    Good luck,
    Merritt

FWIW, I went from 260 Rem to 260 Ackley Improved and I haven't gained that much. Considering that the 40° shoulder is harder to feed from a magazine, I'd recommend that you might be better served with a different cartridge all together.

Me? If I was in your position, I'd look at upgrading to a 7mm Rem SAUM. Fits great in a short action and should feed extremely well out of Alpha Mags (I have two of these and I love them!).

saum is out of the question it is a sako trg 22 and changing the boltface isn't going to happen.

wow merrit that is actually slower than my standard 7mm-08 but i am using 47.8gr of h4350 and getting 2740fps. maybe i will just stick with the standard 7mm-08.

I had one in a Douglas barrel, 8 twist I believe it was (hunting rifle). Shoulder angle makes it one sexy looking round. The most accurate load with 140 grain Nosler was found at velocities attainable as a regular 7-08. With handloads I did get it up over 3,000 ft. per sec. but the accurate load was in the 2700-2750 range if I recall. I don't own it any more, changed to 6.5 Creedmoor. Do what you want but I'd go a different route.
