7mm-08

Savage with 26" CBI 7mm-08 prefit barrel:

Before Melonite: 46.5gr H4350, 162amax, 2.850" COAL, FC 308 brass, 2810fps, case capacity limited (really compressed load)

After Melonite: 45.5gr H4350, 162amax, 2.850" COAL, FC 308 brass, 2760fps, pressure limited

Both loads "single holed" at 100 yards.

Try 41grs 2000MR, had a pretty decent group with it out to 300yds. I found it, only 3 shots, but it was shot by my Sporter 700.

If I might hijack slightly, answering and looking for opinions...26" barrel with the 162.

Just chrono'd some loads. I was easily exceeding 2700 with 45+ of H4350. Got over 2800 with 45.3, but accuracy wasn't there.

Settled on 44.6 (for accuracy), with the chrono spitting out the following over an 8 shot string:

Avg: 2678
ES: 24.91
SD: 09.11

Should I keep working on this? Maybe RL-17?

What COAL can you run in your rifle ?

Reloder 17 and 19 will get you that velocity.

I'm running 162gr Amax's at 2750fps out of a 22" barrel. COAL 2.875". Lapua 260Rem brass expanded up to 7mm.

Loads are mildly compressed and require drop tube and or case vibration to settle in the powder.

I'm running Berger 168gr Classic Hunters at 2800fps out of a Tikka Varmint using 46gr of RL17. COAL of 2.880"

As usual work up loads in your rifle.

Hodgden lists a load using IMR 8208 that gets near your required velocity. I'm yet to try 8208 in my 7mm-08 but if results in other cartridges using this powder are any indication it should be very accurate.

48 gr. of RE-22 behind that bullet out of a 26" barrel.

Magnum, slow-burn powder?

Alliant recommends their Power Pro 2000- never heard of it...can't find how it's burn rate compares to others on a chart anywhere (?)

Using RE-22 is just giving you a longer push in a long barrel. You can also start at 45 gr. and use Magnum primers and work up for even more velocity. Typically what I use is 45.1 gr. of RE-19 behind a 180 gr. bullet.

As far as the Pro-2000, I have a pound but still have yet (after one year) to work up loads with it.

I run the 162's at 2760 fps with h4350 for my competition load,
With viht n550 I have a nice node at 2850 fps, but it's hot and wrecks primer pockets after x3 firings.

also a nice backup bullet for me is the 175smk with h4350 OR n550 at 2640fps.

Lovely ballistics on both bullets, and I've taken the 162's out to 1300yrds with consistant accuracy.
I'm confident it would push further but I'm about maxed out on scope elevation any further!
