7PRC vs 7PRCW

Not read any articles, but the data is pretty straightforward on each cartridge. the 7-6.5PRCW is going to be more efficient and have better barrel life, but still offer a little less velocity than a straight 7PRC.

What are you looking to do with it?

Looking to hunt with it out of a short barrel with a suppressor when I say Short I mean 20 inches. Every time you Google it that stupid AI gets a seven PRC and seven PRCW all mixed up and it starts throwing crap out there. That’s not even relevant. Id like to see some real world numbers (FPS) with 162 and 175 grain bullets out of both. So far I have not found any.

I had to look it up and the AI summary made me laugh:

AI Overview

The 7PRCW and 7-6.5PRCW are essentially the same cartridge, with 7PRCW being a more common name according to Wheeler Accuracy. It's a necked-down version of the 6.5 PRC, and the "CW" designation indicates a corrected base diameter to prevent potential issues. The 7 PRC, on the other hand, is a SAAMI-standard cartridge that is not simply a necked-down version of the 6.5 PRC.
😄

I had heard of the 7-6.5PRC, just not the 7PRCW designation.

I still think that you'll get more horsepower out of a 20" 7PRC than you will a 7-6.5PRCW. The only downside to the 7PRC will be blast and recoil.

im sure it will too but I want to know how much BEFORE i plop down a bunch of cash for a build. I have a Proof built 7PRC and its a beast with 175s I get 3100 outta it but it is longer than a dry land well rope with a can on it. Looks like a howitzer  I want a blind/high rack gun

This below... @lash just saved me linking it.

It is hard to compare because most 7-6.5PRCW guys are running barrels a lot longer than your normal 7PRC guy.

There is about a 12 gr case capacity difference, 72gr vs. 60gr.

There’s a decent amount of discu about it on Accurate Shooter. Here’s one thread, with some good info:

Am I wrong in thinking a 7-6.5PRC would be essentially the same as a 7SAUM?

7SAUM is going to have in the general neighborhood of 6 - 10 gr more case capacity and give more velocity. *** Edited because I forgot to add the availability of the PRC brass is better than the SAUM.

I went through the "which 7mm" conundrum last year, before settling on a 7-300 PRC... simply because I wanted horsepower.

I’m going through the same conundrum right now and leaning toward the 7-300 prc. Any regrets?

Accuracy.
SD and ES
Getting good nodes.

Must be rifle and Hornady brass. Waiting for a better rifle and will get premium brass. But it seems much more tricky than say 6BR or 6GT to load.
Well crap. Just about everything is more tricky that 6BR and 6GT to load for. If that’s all you’ve experienced, you are about to find out. 6BR is the absolute easy button for loading.

No. I load 25 cartridges plus.

In large calibers - I have 300NM (getting 5-6 SD), multiple 6.5PRC (getting 8-10 SD). I load loads of magnums. 7PRC was just not working for me. .

. Sent rifle to Howa. They said it’s fine and are returning it. 🤨. I might just sell it and -

I will just wait for the MPA 7PRC. I know it would be great. Issues should to away.

Finally got a shipping notice on my 7prc, bad timing as I have other stuff going on. Not sure when I'll actually get a chance to take it on. I was back and forth over the SAUM, but went PRC in hopes of finding stuff off the shelf if needed.

7prc 81.8gr H20 capacity, 7 suam 74.8, 7-65prc 70.1, fired and filled with water on my scale. I see no point in the PRCW vs a 7Saum unless you solely desire a non rebated rim, and multiple brass manufacturers.

Someone i shared notes with on Reddit said they tried 7-65PRC and did not like. Went 7SAUM. I still got the 7PRCW for the Lapua brass. Let’s see.

The brass seemed tough to get for 7SAUm when I was looking

I am not having great experience with my 7PRC. Granted it a Howa. Have ordered a 7PRC from MPA will come in 20 weeks. Hopefully that will be better.
My Howa 300 PRC was a bargain purchase. Not custom rifle accuracy for sure. With an aftermarket barrel it is a reliable 0.7 MOA shooter. It’s easy to say I should have spent more on the summer of 2021, but life was very uncertain then. I would recommend something else.

I heard people singing praises of Howa and I have a bunch of Seekins and MPA so I was like let’s save some money on this. But those rifles have spoiled me and my expectations.

I have bought an aftermarket barrel, action wrench and gauges. Once the rifle is in my hand trom the manufacturer where it is for MOA testing, that’s the first thing I am doing. Swapping barrels.

But with guns and optics. Buy once cry once.
