So I've finally gotten all of my gear assembled, now looking for a good starting point with the powder and primers. Plan on starting with some win brass, 162gr AMAX in a 9 twist bartlein barrel...

Shooting in MN so temps can be from 90 down to -20F...

Thanks

Shaun

I shoot H1000 in my 7mag with the 162 Amax. Try 65gr and work your way up you may be surprised at what you get get it to do. Mine runs about 3125fps and is a flat hammer to 1k. For primers I use FGM215m but you may have trouble getting them, Winchester large magnums are a close second for me.

I am running H1000 as well with the 162 Amax, running close to max (per the Hornady reloading manual). Very flat and consistant performer out to 700 (thats as far as I took it). For lighter bullets (139/140's) I use H4350 and standard long rifle primers.

My 7mag was chambered for the 162 AMAX, although I'm running an 8.5 twist. A 215M primer over 64.7gr of RL22 gets me an average of 2982 with an ES of 13 and an SD of 5. You'll find that In the 7 mag you have a low node around 2960ish, or in that immediate neighborhood, and then another around 100-150 fps faster. The 2982 was so accurate that I just stopped there.

I've always loaded IMR4350, 140bts , 65 grains, and 215m for the 7 mag and it shoots incredible.

I run RETUMBO, with 162a-max&162SST start around 66gr and work up.ymmv . I tried rl-22got pressure early ,same with h-1000 & 7828sc . didnt get to try RL-25? best groups were with RETUMBO with almost no pressure signs .igot a factory rem 700bdl factory 24' barrel.
