I can not find much data on these bullets for the 7WSM, and the 180's are not listed in Sierra's manual. Anyone that can offer starting weight on powders, specifically RE-22/H1000/H4831sc, or which powders work best for this weight class of bullets would be much appreciated.

My load is the 180 VLD hunting bullets with 67.5 grains of H1000 and a 210 gm primer. I also had great performance with the 175 sgk at 67 Grains of H1000 and a 210 gm primer. I chose the 180 VLD for my 7wsm as the performance and knock down power look pretty impressive. There is a thread in the hunting section on the vld hunting bullets.

Nick-
Is this in a long action or short action? It makes a huge difference. 7mm 180gr bullets are LONG and take up a lot of the case in a short action, so you really need to know the OAL to make powder charge recommendations. With that said, here are the MAX charges from the Berger manual for the 180gr in the 7WSM at 2.860" OAL (short action):

H4831sc 61.0gr
RE-22 62.0gr
H1000 66.4gr

Work up to these of course! Good luck

I have a 7WSM in a short action.

180 gr Berger VLD
62.2 gr RL-22
Fed 215M primer (large rifle magnum)
COAL approximately 2.951
OAL to Ogive (touching) 2.241

No pressure signs at 62.2 but started to get some once I got up into low 63s.

7WSM
26" 5R Bartlein Barrel
Winchester CRF action (tuned & bedded by GA Precision)
65.80gr H1000
CCI BR2 Primers
Winchester brass, necks turned to 0.015
180gr Berger hunting VLD
2.2475" Base to ogive
2,880fps @ 57 deg, alt. 1,374ft, barometric pressure 30.29
100yd C/C 5 round group 0.116"

I shoot 180gr VLDs over 69.8gr of Retumbo, OAL at 2.945" (short action with Alpha mags). It's a bit of a compressed load, but I don't get pressure signs and it's very accurate (.2-.3), and has held .3MOA out to 1150 yards. The velocity is 2805fps out of a 22" Krieger medium palma, 1:9 twist. Gun was built by Robert Gradous. That load is near max. I started around 64 grains of Retumbo and worked up to it. At 70.5gr, I got pressure signs.

I'm currently loading 180gr match king with 66gr of retumbo, oal is 2.893 in my 7wsm. Not sure of the velocity as I havent been able to shoot through a chronograph but the load is accurate and shows no sign of pressure .
