I got my 7wsm up and going. I chronoed my load of 66 grains of H1000, with 180 bergers @2.995 oal. I am only getting 2850fps. I am going to try 66.6, but I am already showing pressure signs and was really hoping for 2950. I didn't want to use R22 because its hot as hell here. Any suggestions?

Re: 7wsm more speed!!!

RL25 is a little hotter then H1000, you should be able to get to get a little more speed with it, but it's a little more temp sensative then H1000 from my understanding. I think wroscoe and JeffVN switched from RL25 to H1000. I am using 67.2gr of RL25 in my 26" Broughton and not showing any pressure signs yet, that should be good for 2958FPS. I really haven't had the chance to push it faster yet. I switched to the 162 AMAXs, and I can push those to 3100FPS with 70grs of RL25. Tried 71grs of RL25 with good sucess so far. I need to hit the range again to confirm that this load will shoot.

Re: 7wsm more speed!!!

I shoot my 180s at 2850 with 62.0grs 4831SCC to 1k at 6.1 mils.. I dont really have a problem with that.... Hotter = less barrel life, and at 2850 its not worth it. Now my barrel does like 162gr AMAX with 66.0 grs RL22....

Re: 7wsm more speed!!!

I have a 300 win mag that I get 2960fps with 210 vlds, thats been to a mile. I don't want this gun to be a 1000yds gun. I am trying to get beyond a mile. If I only get 2900fps out of it. It would be like shooting the .300. I need 2950 to get past the mile marker.

If I have to I will go RL22.

Re: 7wsm more speed!!!

try H4831SCC, it faster than H1000 and not as temp sensative as RL22

Re: 7wsm more speed!!!

What kind of barrel are you running? At 66gr of H1000, it should be way under max pressures. For H1000, you would need somewhere around 69gr to reach 2950.

Try the CCIBR2's with H1000. Mine is the 7-300wsm but, the 7wsm is really close. I had good results with RL-25 and the WLR primers. Drop the magnum primers if thats what you're using.

Re: 7wsm more speed!!!

I ran RL-25 when I lived in Houston and it was a hammer. I only switched to H1000 when I moved to Las Vegas, a significant temp increase, and the RL-25 didn't seem to like 110+ on a daily basis.

Re: 7wsm more speed!!!

SoTex, I live in Central Texas and hunt in South Texas as well.
Through my 24" barrels MagPro is faster than any other powder going up to 2900 fps in a 24" barrel without pressure signs.
MagPro also provides the most consistent cold dirty bore shots. RL22 is second. For all loads, I do my load work up when temps are in the 90's so that they will be safe in hot weather, and then just document changes as temps drop.
MagPro, RL22 or RL25 will run faster than the Hodgdon powders. Been there, done that.

Re: 7wsm more speed!!!

Kind of OT: Does anyone know how much throat wear is normal on the the 7WSM? I measured the throat of mine yesterday and moved forward around .080 from the original measurment when the barrel was new. I have about 400 rounds down the tube so far. Loads are a little hot but not into pressure yet.

I have lost .004" off my throat after 250 rds.I did not check the throat when the barrel was brand new,but I checked it from round #250-500.I have a benchmark barrel, and shooting 162gr Amax's behind 68.5gr's of H1000 (3030 fps.).

Re: 7wsm more speed!!!

62.0 4831sc Berger, JLK 180 VLD's, 2888 FPS, 24.1 MOA @ 1000yds.

Everything shoots good, Magpro, RL-22 but I have kind of settled on the 4831sc...now if I can find a couple 8 pounders.

Re: 7wsm more speed!!!

Yes, you will, I shot it 68 rounds a couple Saturdays ago, recoils really is no problem. The Vias brake helps, I guess. I shot the TX. long rang champ's without it, I wore a pussy pad as the brakes are a no-no in NRA comps. still no recoil prob's anf I'm NO fan of recoil.
