7WSM Short action or long action?

Currently I have a GAP 7WSM with 28" barrel on a Rem700 short action. Shoots great and am thinking about doing another only on a custom action. Was wondering if there would be an advantage to going to a long action. Right now I'm shooting Berger 180 VLD'S at 2960fps with a COAL of 2.960. This is my limit with the AI mags I'm using. How much would I gain by using a long action if any? Not really interested in any other calibers as I already have brass, bullets, dies and reamer.

Assuming that you are going to use a barrel of similar length, the only possible reason to long-throat the 180 Bergers and seat them way out and go long action is to try to reach the 3,050 fps node. If you can get 2,950+ fps in your current rig, I would not mess with it.

I built my WSM on a LA. It feeds fine and COAL is never an issue.

LA is the only way to fly.

Don't mean to hijack but I think its relevant. What is the freebore length of the reamer you use for a long action where you have the room?
