Im getting everything ready to have a rifle built and have it narrowed down to the 7wsm & 7stw. I will be using this rifle for fun shooting and deer/elk (mostly deer)hunting at ranges out to 600-700 yards and I will be shooting a 160 AB. Will the stw be worth the extra velocity over the wsm at the cost of barrel life, more recoil and use of more powder? What kind of barrel life could I get with the stw?

Re: 7wsm vs. 7stw

No, at those ranges 600 to 700 the 7wsm has all the horespower and then some to kill those animals you mentioned.

I own 1 wsm now have owned 2 other previously and had a 7ultra for a spell. the wsm does it all, its the best compromise to me with the 7mm's as far as ballistics, downrange energy, and barrel life.

I'm with Shootone, I've had both and love the STW but for what you are talking about I would just go with the WSM. If it was just for hunting and you didn't shoot it much I might lean to the STW.
