I'm looking at the 7x64 in a tikka as an option for a lightweight off the shelf hunting rifle. Has anyone had experience with this chambering?

I have a Brenneke, was passed down to me. I fucked with it some, great shooting rifle but too expensive to load for, IF and when I could find brass. It sits in the safe now. I'll take it to Africa if I ever get to go, well, just because that's where it looks like it belongs. I'm assuming you aren't in the US? You probably won't get much info on this forum. Most Brenneke's and their owners reside in central Europe.

Yeah mate, I'm in Aus. I'm looking for a non-magnum 7mm that I don't have to go down the custom pathway for, hence the 7x64. 284 Win and 280AI are only available in rifles at a much higher price point here. Brass availability isn't bad for the 7x64 here either.

I don't have experience with the 7x64 exactly, but have used the .280 Remington (ballistically identical) to take whitetails and would have no hesitation in using one again. Recoil is the same as a .270 Winchester, and the variety of bullets for handloading is better. And on the up side Tikkas are fantastic guns. I say jump on it and don't look back.

I already have a battue so might look at the option of another in 7x64. Doesn't really have the barrel length I'm looking for though. The lite may be a better option.
