Guys,
If any of you are in the general York PA area, have some time on 8/13, and want to win some $$$, my local range, Seitzland Rifle Club, is hosting its 2nd "tactical" match. The range is located at 3938 Bowser Road in New Freedom PA. Match starts at 8am. Questions can be emailed to jmeadeATcomcast.net

FULL DISCLOSURE- the range is 200 yards max. John, the guy running the match is trying very hard to put together a challenging match given the distance constraints, having 'Hide representation and post match feedback would be nice. Could win some decent $$$ too. Below I have listed a basic look at the COF w whining from the guys who shot the pre-match COF included. Hope to see a couple familiar faces at the match.

"To begin with I built 6 “barricades” to shoot from. They are built out of 2”X4”’ and have 3 positions. One position is 48” high, one is 36” and the last is 18”. I told them they represent solid walls and I clamped them to the uprights that hold the roof up. I also use a sandbag on the outside position to hold the wall a bit steadier. You are allowed to rest your rifle on the top of the wall in any position.

For the “Know Your Limit” match you will load 5 rounds and you can shoot from any of the 3 positions on the wall. The target exposure time will be 15 seconds. The target has 3 black aiming circles. One is 6” in diameter, one is 5” in diameter and the last is 4” in diameter. The scoring is 3, 2 and 1points for the smallest to the biggest target. You don’t have to fire all 5 shots and you can shoot at any or all of the 3 targets. If you shoot a miss you get a zero for the whole string. The shooters didn’t do very well because I thought they were rushing to fire all 5 rounds. They also complained that the “walls” were not as stabile as shooting from the ground. I told them that not so stabile shooting positions were part of tactical shooting and also there will be strategy involved in winning this match. High scoring hits on targets may be more important than getting all the shots off.

For the rapid fire stage I have 5 aiming blacks on each target. The aiming blacks are a little smaller than the size of a mans chest area. They have an “X” scoring ring in the middle but that will only be used as a tie breaker. The targets will be scored as a hit or miss. You will shoot 10 rounds at the targets will be exposed for 40 seconds. You will start with a loaded rifle but you must make a magazine change some where in the string. You must use all 3 positions on the “wall” and you must fire at least 2 shots from every position on the wall. The aiming blacks can have no more than 2 hits on each one. If you fail to fire at least 2 shots from each position you get zero for the string. If you have more than 2 hits on one aiming black you will be scored for 1 miss. The shooters complained that the time was too short. Once I explained to them the strategy of loading the magazines and putting two magazines together they were able to get off all the shots. Again I told them that hits on the targets may be more important than getting off all ten shots. The shooters will shoot this course of fire twice.

For the moving balloon targets the center balloon will be worth 5 points and a hit on either of the outside balloons will be scored as a minus 2. A miss will simply be a miss. Exposure time is 5 seconds. We have a new way of attaching the balloons to the frames and it allows them to move around a bit more. Last time I taped all 3 together. This time there is no tape. The shooters said it was much harder with out the tape so I put the tape on but they still didn’t get many hits. The last time only 30% of the shots at the balloons were hits so I didn’t want to make it any harder but with the scoring now the balloon stage should determine the match winner. Still though Sam it’s not going to be easy to hit the balloons.

All together there will be 30 record shots fired and 3 sighters at the beginning of the match on the “Know Your Limits” target. The match is going to be on Saturday August the 13th."

Re: 8/13 SRC York PA "tactical" match

Great range...great people. Here's a COF that SCREAMS for an accurate .223! If you guys do not know Seitzland it has been a staunch promoter of all variety of shooting sports for MANY generations. Glad to see the inclusion of tactical.

Sorry I can't make this one Sam, but I look forward to the next.

Agree on SRC being behind our sport, I started shooting there over 40 years ago.
They are making a strong effort here and hope we can get some boots on the ground 8/13.

Expecting to be attending. Looks like a gas gun is the way to go, and .223 sounds about perfect. May change my regular 1x4 3-gun glass for a 3-9 scope, as there sounds like no close stuff and no really fast shooting?

Re: 8/13 SRC York PA "tactical" match

Gentlemen,

My name is John and I am guy Seuss mentioned as getting the Tactical Rifle match together at the Seitzland Rifle club.

To start with the club address is 3938 Bowser Road New Freedom PA. 17349. It is a 200 yard range with a concrete firing line that is covered. We have target carriers and pits and we use the carriers as pop up targets. Bathroom facilities and a soda machine are on the property.

The entry fee for the match is $20 of which $10 goes into the prize pool. The prize pool will pay out up to 4 places as determined by the number of competitors. 1 thru 5 shooters pays 1 place with the high shooter getting 100% of the prize pool. 6 thru 10 shooters pays 2 places, high shooter gets 60% and the runner up gets 40%. 11 thru 15 pays 3 places, high gets 55%, 2nd gets 30% and 3rd gets 15%. 16 plus shooters pays 4 places with 1st place 50%, 2nd place 25%, 3rd place 15% and 4th gets 10%.

The match will have 3 stages, 2 of which are fired from a 3 position barricade, each stage completed by all of the shooters before the next stage starts. The 1st stage will include 3 sighter shots. After the sighters it will be a "Know Your Limits" match where you will have 15 seconds to shoot 5 rounds at 3 aiming blacks of different sizes. You can use any or all of the 3 positions of the barricade for this stage. The small target will be worth 3 points, the middle size will be worth 2 points and the large target will be worht 1 point. Shoot a miss and you will get 0 for the stage.

The second stage will be 10 shots rapid fire in 40 seconds. You must shoot at least 2 shots from each of the 3 barricade positions and have a magazine change in the string. The target frame will have 5 aiming blacks on it which must have no more than 2 hits on each aiming black. There is an X ring centered in each aiming black which is used as a tie breaker. The targets will be scored hit or miss and if an aiming black has more than 2 hits on it those hits will be scored as misses. You will shoot 2 strings of 10 rounds for this stage.

The 3rd stage will be the moving balloon targets. Each frame has 3 balloons and the shooters target is the middle balloon. A hit on the middle balloon is worth 5 points and a hit on either of the outside balloons is worth minus 2points. A miss is just a miss. Each shooter will get 5 chances at the balloons. You can shoot from any position and use any type of front and rear rest. The balloons will be exposed for 5 seconds.

The total number of rounds is 3 sighters and 30 shots for record. Bring extras in case we mess you up in the pits!!(Yeah.......That never happens!!)

We are going to try to run it like we did the first one in that competitors will only be shooting their rifles. We had enough volunteers to keep score and work the pits.

If you would like to sign up send me an e-mail at [email protected] and I will put you on the list and also reply to you. If bad weather moves in for that weekend I will send out a cancellation notice to all who sign up by 8 pm Friday the 12th of August.

I look forward to seeing all of you guys and appreciate you for coming out to the range. I think Herr. Baer will tell you the last one was a good bit of fun.

John

OFIS,

We should have the results out soon. As soon as they are available I will post them on this site. I can tell you we just beat that big open faucet in the sky. We got all the shooting finished but we took a bath getting the targets put away. We didn't have a camera but we will for the November 12th match.
