I am looking to get a 308, 7mm rem mag, 300 win mag, or 300 ultra mag with would have a flatter shooting round and hold tighter groups a long range thanks for the help

Re: 800 yard best cal

i vote 300wm with 210bergers at that range. i am building a straight 284 right now which is also a good one if you handload, it doesn't burn as much powder and has just as good trajectory/wind drift all of those other than 300rum

Re: 800 yard best cal

If its paper punching, I'd have to say that the 6BR or just about any of the 6.5 Lapua or Norma offerings (6.5x47 6.5-284).

If you are taking game at 800, you need way more energy than that. 300WM, 300RUM, 300LM, 338LM, etc.

Re: 800 yard best cal

What kind of game do you plan on taking? If deer, any of the above. If elk, I prefer 300wm, wsm or RUM with 210 Bergers.

6x47L,6.5x47L, 243 Win, 260 Rem.

I'd choose all the calibers above (in that order) before any of the calibers you mentioned. IF you are looking for factory loaded ammo only, which is something myself and others may have overlooked, 308 win would be a good choice due to the factory match ammo availability and offerings.

Re: 800 yard best cal

I have to agree with Chiller (and others) on any of the 6.5 family for a flat-shooting 800yd rifle. They'll punch paper very effectively and also work great on small/medium sized game out to that range.

If you do need more energy at extended ranges for larger game...the 7mm WSM would be hard to beat.
