Just getting started on this long range shooting stuff. This is a .223 1/9 twist LRPV savage wearing a leupold mark 4 8.5x25. This is the farthest I've had a chance to shoot and it sure is addictive!!

This is the target. . . two 13 inch plates. I didn't hit them everytime, but sure had fun trying!

Say what you will about a Savage being less than pretty, but they sure do shoot. Can't wait to rebarrel a stock 22-250 FVSS to a faster twist barrel to start shooting the heavier stuff. I wish I had the 1 in 9.

Nice pics Okoyote, I'd trade that view any day for what I've got here. Have you got any big dog towns near you to practice on warm targets? I've got some buddies in eastern MT that I can't wait to visit every year. Thats a goodlooking savage as far as I'm concerned.

Re: 850 yards .223 75 Amax

I need to try some 75 amax.
I have a 1 x 9 Savage 223 AI and am a little skeptical of the 75 grn for that twist rate. Looks like they went pretty good in yours!

I have been out to 700+ with 70 grn Bergers with a full value wind right at 2 mils. Boom/ding quite easy on a 12" target.

No prairie dogs here. Generally have to go west of the river. I do use this set up for prairie dogs. . . . it's a lot of fun!!

I'm shooting over varget, rem7.5, on the lands, and at a speed of 2915. I can run it hotter over the varget without pressure but the accuracy suffers. Last year I was using re15, but was prone to pressure.

Yes it is. Bone stock, just as it came off the shelf.

I have a factory Rem 700 SPS Tactical in .223 that I'm thinking about running my .223 AI rearm in and converting it, but its got a 1-9". I dont know if it will handle the 75 A Max, Krieger says their 1-9's are only good up to 73 grain bullets, but its so close I want to try!!!!

We've reamed a couple out to 223AI and they will handle the 75's then.

Re: 850 yards .223 75 Amax

I shoot the 75 A-max a lot. It's nice to buy them in 600 round boxes as well. Mine is used with the new AI mag and I throated it to get the bullet out of the case with an OAL of 2.485

Go for it you will love it. Does a nice job on WoodChucks too. I did shoot them out of my 700LTR and they ran nice. I think it's luck of the draw on the 1-9's. My custom is a 1-8.

I had the 1/7 LRPV before selling it to a former member here.

That thing shot lights out for my ability and he stretched it further and with better accuracy.

I definitely would not hesitate to purchase another, especially the newer ones. I just wish the 1/7 wasn't single shot only.

The new one was .25 MOA accurate at 100yds, haven't run a turret equiped Leupy yet on it, but I hit P-dogs out to 525yds, running the 40gr vmax.

Devin Sinner here in Watertown runs a small business where he specializes in rebarreling Savages and Stevens in particular. He goes by the handle SINARMS on here, although he isn't on here much having two jobs in all. He has hella fast turnaround time. </div></div>

Good to know! Ill have to check it out. I think I've looked @ his website before.
