    Just watched a horsefly ride my windshield from the start at 0 MPH until wind broke his grip at 65 mph and he went NASA.

    Granted he was cheating in a head down, aerodynamic stance with the wind probably pushing him into the glass as much as it was trying to rip him from the glass.

    Seems like his effort was equal to or greater than that experienced by bipod feet and recoil.

    Cant you guys come up with a way to attach horsefly feet to bipod legs?

    This tells me then, that 'gecko's' are the secret to developing "Land Speeder" technology (as per Star Wars)! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
     
    I think Darpa was actually working on something like this back c. 2002. Using some of the concepts that Sean and Greg posted. The idea was to create ways to ascend buildings, obstacles, etc. One of those "Darpa Hard" Tony Tether projects.

    Not classified, I remember seeing it at a DARPATech show.

    No idea if they got anywhere with it.

    But for bipod legs... not going to work in the dirt as well as spikes!

    P.S. A few years ago, at a competition I went to sponsored by a S.O. they did an over-the-hood shoot from a car as one of the stages. And because there were lots of good photo ops to be had, the Sheriff brought out his shiniest new cruiser, all waxed up. And out of 50 teams, several had Atlas bipods with either spikes or claw feet. By the end of that stage, that cruiser hood looked like it had been through the car crusher. No doubt it had to be replaced... the whole hood. Priceless!
     
    If an engineer were to design it it would need a chain-fall to mount it to your rifle. :) Now if it were a German Engineer it would likey come with a winch built in. :)
