Re: A Chance in Hell: Medical Care in Afghanistan

A reality check that not many get to see. Its not pleasant to watch, but tell me people would appreciate what our Military does even more after seeing that.

Open your eyes. It sucks but its the truth.

RIP all those who didnt return home with us.

Re: A Chance in Hell: Medical Care in Afghanistan

As was stated by a LT. COL in the Army, there are 3 types of people in this world: sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs.

About 80-90% of people (in my humble opinion) are sheep. And if you know anything about sheep, they require CONSTANT care and guidance. Put plainly; sheep are f***ing stupid. It's good that the "sheep" see this raw footage of the aftermath of combat and the costs associated with it.

Americans should be forced to see the high cost of freedom.

In 1943 the Marines sent in a bunch of Photographers and Combat Cameramen with the assault units at Tarawa, including in the first wave. The film they collected, almost all in black and white, was graphic, to say the least. Everywhere they pointed a camera they got etraordinary pictures and footage. It didn't come close to the realities of swollen rotting American dead bobbing in the surf, and decaying on the ground just a few feet from men pinned down behind the seawall or right beyond it. Bodies blasted by explosives, and torn and dismembered and disemboweled by shells and bullets. 3000 dead and wounded on a tiny islet alone in less than 72 hours, plus another 1000 dead and more wounded by the loss of a escort carrier nearby, and attacks on other islands.
The footage was spliced into a 20 minute movie called "With the Marines at Tarawa" and Roosevelt himself ordered it released and show in theaters all over the Country. It won a Oscar.

When the footage was shown in theaters the Chief of marine Corps Public Relations was asked if it was having any effect....
He replied "Yes, enlistments are down 35 percent."

A Sgt who fought there stated "If the Marines can stand the dying you would think the public could at least stand reading about it"

In a a couple more years maybe the "War on Terror" in Afghanistan and Iraq combined might equal what just the marines lost at Iwo Jima, in only a month.
Prespective.

Re: A Chance in Hell: Medical Care in Afghanistan

I just hope those Soldiers are getting better care over there than when I wore the uniform. One of my friends is a nurse in the Army, and she's not too happy with my thoughts on military doctors.

Re: A Chance in Hell: Medical Care in Afghanistan

I was going to buy some stuff this weekend, nothing important, mostly vanity motivated but expensive purchases. Not anymore. WoundedWarrior bound.

Good God what these guys have to live through - the docs, nurses and soldiers alike - and then they want to go back...

"Domine, quo vadis?"
"Eo Romam iterum crucifigi"

Re: A Chance in Hell: Medical Care in Afghanistan

Hooah to the medics in this world. Not just in the military but those working everyday in hospitals around the world. What a job!

I worked a lot on my "down time" in Iraq when the war was waging hard there. I wasn't able to do much but help out and be a "gopher" but damn they are an impressive group of people.

When people ask me how they can help out from my small community back home I give them this...

I don't think there is anything more importnat then helping out those who gave more than most could imagine.

This is what I have been saying for the last few years. While it is sad that we have lost several thousand KIAs in the War on Terror, it cannot compare to the sacrifices that were made in WWI (320,518 casualties), WWII (1,076,245 casualties), Korea (128,650 casualties), and Vietnam (211,454 casualties).

Re: A Chance in Hell: Medical Care in Afghanistan

I don't understand the point being made about the numbers lost. What are you saying?

There are fewer dead in the modern wars (thankfully) due to many reasons. Training, medical support, equipment etc. Just because fewer have died doesn't mean there's anything less profound in the sacrifices given today as compared to yesteryear.

The sacrifices now are just as, or more profound than in WW II. The citizens here aren't mobilized or even interested in this matter. They don't have rationing, or a draft, or a personal involvement. Most don't know anybody who actually is serving in harm's way, or anywhere else. The leftist Democrats and Islamic Apologists belittle and deride those who do step up, knowing what the consequences of that decision is. In Peacetime the Left considers the military personel as welfare in uniform, to lazy and stupid to get "real" jobs and go to college.
Our financial invest in the war on terror is miniscule compared to past wars. Sure equipment, aircraft, and vehicles cost more, but they don't get shot down at rates of 20% a mission. We only have about 165 strategic bombers of all types now, and the Navy is smaller than 1910. The Army has shrunk to almost ineffectiveness. Only the Marines are close to #'s like in the 80's, 3 active and one reserve divisions. But the leftist Politicians and societies parasites complain about the reasonable cost of maintaining even this shrunken military and want to cut it like Carter and Clinton did. A strategic capable military (that doesn't vote democrat) is a enemy to "Fundamental Change".
But most people don't have skin in the game.
