A little ballistic help?

Re: A little ballistic help?

There are two different ways of looking at it that I can think off hand.

1. Similar bullet drop.
2. Similar wind drift

I'm not familiar with the ballistics of the .17, but if it goes subsonic quickly, that will probably be the limiting factor. Some .22 shooters shoot target ammo that is sub-sonic to begin with so there no trans-sonic instability problems.

Post up some data on what you're shooting in each rifle and someone here will do the math for you if you don't have access to a ballistics program.

Re: A little ballistic help?

Well I guess I was close. My guess was around 300. The 17 doesn't go subsonic until about 400. Thanks for your input guys. Being completely two different animals I'll have to look into this a bit more. Thanks again!
