Rifle Scopes A little help finding the right scope

At one time when I bought my 10 Precision carbine, I thought that I would be shooting out to 1000 yrds occasionally. But then reality set in once I plotted that distance on Google Earth where I shoot. That's a long ways. So now my primary objective that may require a long shot is a coyote or a steel target out to say 500 max. Longer distances after I learn out to 500. Also I have a lot more to learn about ranging with a mil reticle.

I would like to get a scope with a reticle that will give me yardage options say out to 500 yrds with optics as clear as a good Leupold. 30 mm tube if possible cause I have the rings on my current scope.

Is this possible in a price range of 5-600 dollars? Or is this a pipe dream?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Just checked out a 10x 42on SWFA. Will the glass be a higher quality than the millett trs-1 that I am currently using? If my price point is too low for better glass, let me know. My only comparison would be to my old 10x40 Leupold binocs.

Well, I ordered one last night. It is the SS12X42MQ model. It also recommended the Mil Dot Master so I got that too. I hope that is the scope you guys were referring to. I'll tell you what I think when it gets here. And yes I saved enough to buy some ammo. Only problem is, there is none to be bought here in town unless your at the gun shop at 8:00 am thursday.

You bought the right one and MilDot Master will be a great help, but will take a little time to learn. Will need some Butler Creek caps too. I guarantee you'll be pleased. Hope you find some ammo. Bid issue right now. Have fun shooting.

Well as I stated earlier, I ordered the scope, but it is backordered. Any idea how long it might take to get one or are they out of production? I emailed them and havn't heard back yet. Read on another thread how long these guys are waiting for a 1-6 scope, like a year or more.

I was looking at this scope; http://swfa.com/Vortex-25-10x44-Viper-PST-30mm-Rifle-Scope-P44567.aspx

Would this be a good choice considering my needs?

I ordered the SWFA HD SS 5-20x50 scope yesterday. It is also on backorder. I spoke to SWFA and they sold out of there initial stock much sooner than they thought they would. I asked how long it would be before they get the scope back in stock. He did not have an exact ETA but said that they were one there way. I would wait for the SS if you can.

Finally got my SS12X42 today. It seems to have real nice glass for the money. Also found my hidden stash of ammo, 13 boxes in the bottom of a file cabinet. Thought I shot it all. Well now I am going to have to wait till about thursday to see how it performs.

Real impressed with the quality of the SS12x42. Haven't got to box test it yet, but have coyote tested it. 2 down on friday morning. Trying to use the mildot master on a coyote is a joke. damn things wouldn't stop long enough to give me a chance to range them.

Thanks for the recommendation, I really like the quality for the money. Can't wait till I can afford a NF.
