In school i remember being taught that McCarthyism was a terrible thing and many innocent people lost their jobs freedoms......and that basically it was just paranoia. Today, It looks like the Senator was right.

Oh boy. Another thing that, apparently, is JUST LIKE HITLER. I'm beginning to think that maybe history education in this country is a bit limited, or maybe creativity on this board is.
Two of the most destructive administrations to our republic were Republicans. The Patriot act and the nation wide lock down (martial law) are totally"Naziesque", but let's not talk about that because the Democrats are supposed the evil ones and the Republicans are our saviors

Definitely closer, since the reporting is ideological rather than anything else. I tend to agree with those who are saying that any move by government to encourage reporting on citizens is a bad idea, and is mainly done to fracture normal social bonds. Who knows where they are really going with this. I'd put my money on using every rhetorical device to consolidate power, without any follow through, but I could be wrong.
And yeah, the Communists killed way more people than anybody else last century, though I guess the difference was that it was the natural result of their awful system, rather than the plan. But then you have the Holodomor, which was clearly the plan. I'm not a big fan of either group, TBH, but I feel like not enough people compare atrocities to the Holodomor. Probably because they went to government schools where that shit never happened, and everybody is free and happy in Cambodia.

Not that are they are all saints and sinners, but there are some SERIOUS contenders for 'most destructive administration' that make anything in the last 20 years child's play.
