I'm not sure I can qualify the below list, but this seems to be the consensus in the shooting community of the manufacturers who turn raw forgings into usable receivers. Each brand applies their own standards and tolerances. This seems reasonable as we know this is also how a lot of scopes are being made these days . . . one or two Asian manufacturers producing many labels.

How can you forget these!!!
To me most uppers are pretty much the same unless you get a billet one or something and they all cost around the same price. I have a Vltor MUR upper to a Doublestar upper. The Upper is not going to make you shoot better, or the lower. Just make sure its mil-spec. I usually buy the Bravo Co. uppers or the Vltor MUR upper and the lower I use is what my gun store has in stock. All lowers are damn near the same too. It isnt going to make you shoot .2" groups if you have a $300 upper and a $300 lower. Get a quality barrel and bolt, thats what makes the difference.
