So why doesn't Magpul make one of these? they make nice onces for the AR10 platform in 308.... Wonder how hard it would be, seems like there would be a good market. I hate running around with $80 name brand mags in a carrier that gets beat all to heck... Would love a $30 Magpul mag....

Re: A thought on AICS mags

My first thought when the Magpul precision rifle video was announced was hoping that Magpul could come out with a composite aics mag.

Methinks that to hold a round single feed, the polymer feed lips would have to be too thick to fit into the bottom of an unmodified r700 receiver.

Its been a LONG time since prototypes were seen/referenced, but I'd guess that this one died on the vine or that Magpul has back-burnered this project for the time being with no way its getting into production in the next year (or more).

Re: A thought on AICS mags

It's simple. Supply, demand, potential profit, etc.

Now everyone thinks they need 10-20 AR mags, but only about 3-5 bolt rifle mags. And there are probably about 25 ARs out there for every precision rifle, so there's the smaller market. Then there's the easy argument that P-mags are better than the cheap GI mags for the AR, but you'd have a hard time convincing me that Pmags were better than real AI mags since all of mine have always been flawless.

So there you have it.

It might since Alpha Type 2 mags can be used with the Ruger. It's a good experiment anyhow.

No, they don't, not without some modification at least. About halfway down the mag they get considerably thicker, and won't fit in the mag. I think the magwell for the GSR is shallow maybe?
I'm modifying one to make it work (almost have it), but I'm not very confident that it will be durable. My guess is that they made it thicker on the lower half for strength, and that when I try to use it loaded I'll have problems.
