I have a couple of Mr. Cross’s Sentinel stocks and love to shoot them. I thought I’d attempt to duplicate it in a wood stock, mahogany in this case. Overall, I was moderately pleased with the results and I’m looking forward to giving it another shot as I learned an awful lot in this first attempt and hope to do much better on the next one.

Really nice! That had to be a butt load of work.
Real wood is always the shit.

Enjoy sir.

Thank you sir and thanks everyone for all of the responses. I really wasn’t expecting the first one to work out as well as it did and I’m really looking forward to what the next one brings. It’s a whole lot easier just buying one though…when you can find ‘‘em that is.

Did you keep with your time in that out of curiosity? I have the utmost respect for your work with my dad being a finish carpenter.

Here is my second effort. The stock is made from Brazilian Leopardwood. I’m giving this one to my dad for Father’s Day. I am much happier with this one than the first effort, but that’s to be expected as we learn. Looking forward to what the next one brings.

How am I only just now seing this thread!? That is amazing work! Did you use a template to get the profile or just do it by eye?

Thanks. I had my son rough it out on a CNC router to get the proper profile, then did the necessary boring, milling, grinding and sanding to finish it. There was a lot of improvement from the first attempt to the second, and I’m about to give it another try in the next month or so. I’ll post pics when it’s finished. I found a beautiful piece of Bubinga for this one.

Can’t wait to see it, I had been thinking about trying something like this myself. And now seeing some done it’s making me want to do it more, just have to find the time
