Just saw a news lead that the "The U.S. Department of Justice formally submitted a regulation on Saturday to ban "bump stocks," a modification to high-capacity rifles that lets them fire like an automatic weapon." (source at bottom of post)

I never liked bump stocks, never wanted to own one, and I thought they were a gimmick. That said, this is a damn shame. I would like to see the language of the regulation to see how this regulation may have translational effects on other products.

The move does not require congressional approval, allowing the administration to side-step what could have been insurmountable pressure from pro-gun groups such as the National Rifle Association that have worked to erode changes in firearm laws in the wake of mass shootings in Florida and Nevada.

Fuck Yahoo and fuck this, too.

Im worried it won't be just "bump stocks" but anything designed to "increase the rate of fire" which is way too broad and subjective a category to give the govt.

Back door way to ban trigger mods.

Well more than that..... how do they define “ increase the rate of fire”....because what is the standard rate of fire for a gun?

For a machine gun, that’s easy to measure.... but for a semi auto, it’s dependent on how fast you pull the trigger..... there is no “rate of fire” on a semi auto rifle.

So it leave it open to a very broad interpretation that will ultimately lead to a ban on semi auto rifles totally.

“ oh this gas system increases the rate of fire”

Then we’ll be left with bolt actions

“ oh this bolt handle and box magazine increase the rate of fire”

Then we’ll be left with single shots

“ oh this metallic cartridge increases the rate of fire”

......etc.

Ban mental illness. Problem solved.

The problem with murderer's, is that murder isn't illegal enough. They need to make laws that make murder illegal'er. That's how they got rid of all the drugs and drunk drivers.

Department of Justice Submits Notice of Proposed Regulation Banning Bump Stocks
Today the Department of Justice submitted to the Office of Management and Budget a notice of a proposed regulation to clarify that the definition of “machinegun” in the National Firearms Act and Gun Control Act includes bump stock type devices, and that federal law accordingly prohibits the possession, sale, or manufacture of such devices.

"President Trump is absolutely committed to ensuring the safety and security of every American and he has directed us to propose a regulation addressing bump stocks,” said Attorney General Jeff Sessions. “To that end, the Department of Justice has submitted to the Office of Management and Budget a notice of a proposed regulation to clarify that the National Firearms and Gun Control Act defines ‘machinegun’ to include bump stock type devices.”

This submission is a formal requirement of the regulatory review process. Once approved by the Office of Management and Budget, the Department of Justice will seek to publish this notice as expeditiously as possible.

Best call up our reps and tell them they might want to get that hearing protection act and concealed carry reciprocity passed if they would like to stay in office at the end of the year.

Either way, Trump is finished. A good portion of his base feels completely betrayed and won't be turning up to vote for him again. So the dems get the White House back in 2 years.

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

It'd be just terrible if we had to defend the Constitution from the depredations of the Federal government.
This wont be "law" as much as it will be an executive action. Which is aimed at the definition of a machine gun, which again is from a 1934, 1968 or 1986 law.

Dumb ass brother in-law has one, i am fucking torn.

Don't look at the object, look at the motive.

Unconstitutional law is no law at all
And there in lies the problem. To prove that, it takes millions of $$$ and years in the court system. Then the chicken shit SCOTUS is to scared to take up the issue.
I think before any law is passed it must FIRST pass the court system not AFTER.

Or you ignore the law completely and you nullify every time you are on a jury. Ignore the police, have no contact with government at all, or a little as possible in our socialist republic. Do not comply, At all, ever. Let the cards fall where they fall with asswipes that seek to limit your right and freedoms unconstitutionally. Stay armed and be ready to fend yourself and your rights.

The government only has as much power as you agree to let them have, just stop agreeing on every level, operation Chaos. Put them in their place, they are government workers.

It has nothing to do with law. This an edict. Tyrants issue edicts.

Best we get on the offensive. This is a slippery slope. And while I agree with the statement that the governed give the governing the power, it means little if those granting the power don’t flex some muscle every now and then to remind those in power of whom grants them the power in the first place. Every time something like this happens, people do a lot of chest thumping but nobody actually organizes and does much. This is where the left defeats anyone in the right every time. They organize and mobilize an offensive line yesterday and are good at it. The right beats their chest, complains online, maybe writes a rep or two and that’s it. That’s not going to work down the road. Anyone got any suggestions on where we can go from here? Anyone with a law degree would especially be helpful.

The left has a tremendous amount of momentum fueled by several billionaires. Every Anti 2A organization gets whatever they need in capital to stage and plan. That funding also owns the MSM. With that, they have an incredible advantage. Pro 2A supporters are largely grass roots and do not have access to that kind of capital. They have little coverage by the MSM unless it is negative. Therefore, the Pro 2A factions can be painted any way that MSM desires and it can be sold to the general populace who are presently fence sitters that really have no opinion. Facts can be dismissed and outright lies can be sold through every media outlet that exists.

The perception will be difficult to overcome.

Lay low...stay well armed and wait. IMHO, it can go either way. Both sides have rage. Rage generally turns to violence on a scale larger than what we have seen and that will lead to the tipping point. Which direction will it fall on is up for grabs at this point.

The problem with laying low is that’s what has been done for decades and lay too low you wind up losing it all. I think as a collective we have been lying low far too long. It’s time to make your voices heard. Maybe we should start out own social media, our own news orgs etc. some kind of did that with the launch of full30 to counteract YouTube but that’s just a start.

Stay armed and insist on your rights no matter what, be prepared for the worst.

As far as rage and reaching a tipping point, the pent up rage of the Constitution believing freedom loving silent maority just elected Donald Fuking Trump, if this doesn’t work, the next action will be a civil war and the elimination from our shores all Constitutional enemies one way or another.

Donald doesn’t seem tp be working out lately, buy ammo.

I agree with some of what you say. We should be heard collectively. However, it falls on deaf ears.

In my home state of RI, our cunt Governor who knows she is done in November, is trying to pass a complete ban of every semi-auto firearm available. It even includes 10-22 rifles. There was a huge hearing this past week with several hundred anti 2A people in red t-shirts and several THOUSAND Pro-2A people in yellow t-shirts. The main newspaper in the capital reported "a sea of red and yellow" even though it was 10X more yellow. The media talked about several Anti 2A speeches and applauded the lawmakers' actions as "common sense laws protecting our children". If you were there, you saw the reality which was very different. The most articulate speeches by the common folks came from Pro-2A people. Nothing was said by MSM.

Laying low does not mean you will "lose everything". The reality is no one knows who owns what despite the records that they have. They can't even do a good job with background checks. They certainly do not have the wherewithal to know how many guns you own. Good luck trying to take them by force. At that point, there will be no law. There will be lots of bloodshed and I hope I never see that day.

Slowly? I think it will start to gain momentum. A kid in Utah, who had love for ISIS, fabricated a bomb out of household materials and brought it to school last week, yet we hear crickets in the media about it for the most part. I don’t hear for a ban on any of those items. The tool isn’t the problem. I don’t hear anything about a ban on alcohol, cigarettes, cell phones, doctors etc. all of which are each responsible for more deaths each year than guns. So, if it’s really about saving people we can ban abortion along with all of the things above. While we are at it we might as well ban pizza as well. See how retarded this is? This has nothing to do with the tool. This has every bit to do with them exerting more of their will on you. I suggest we put together some well thought out, scathing letters to our governing critters and back up the arguments from quotes of law. Any well spoken peeps want to put something together for others to follow? Everyone wants to talk about us gaining ground, as far as I’m concerned we have been losing ground for decades and at this point we might as well be begging for our rights. That’s not the way this is supposed to work.

The best way to do ot would be to make them an NFA item. Current ones are grandfathered, and can be transfered as an NFA item.

Me to brother, me to. However, I’m still relatively young and fear for the freedoms of my children. The landscape of freedom is vastly different now than it was when I was growing up in the 80’s and 90’s. Vastly different. Whether people see that or not is a different story.

No argument..I totally agree.

The myth is it is about "saving" people. It is about disarming people. but even the MSM can't sell that. The ruse of public safety as a reason is very well protected.

They have no interest in this and from what I can tell specifically stated such. Illegal, period. No grandfathering or any of the sort.

This was in response to GBMaryland. No idea what happened to my quote.

Registration leads to confiscation....

... they can’t confiscate what they don’t know you have

Step one - elect Trump

Step two - Let Trumps mere presence evoke a drastic ovrer reaction by the swamp that results in his forced removal from office

Step Three- Game on
