Hi guys. After reading a lot of threads here and elsewhere, I'm leaning towards purchasing an AAC 762-SD. I will explain my reasoning and ask your opinions on my choice and thought process. I'm also looking for a good deal on one, so if you know who has them in stock (new) or has one for sale (used) I would appreciate the heads up. And Yes, I know how and have used the search function and read up on many of the AAC discussions on this and other boards.

USE:
I plan on using the can in 4 configurations. Most importantly will be with a .300 whisper upper. Second will be with my LMT MRP in 5.56. Third will be with the MRP using a .22 conversion. And Fourth will be on a DPMS SASS .308 that I am planning to buy in the (near?) future. Any heads up on a good SASS deal would be appreciated as well.

(Added edit during pre-post read over- The above paragraph highlights to me the fact that I will be using 3 barrels and 4 calibers and thus, perhaps the advantages of the adjustable POI miter system would be worth the extra money and the the cost and hassle of re-threading my AR barrel. Hmm... know I'm even closer to the line between the 762-SD and the SCAR-H)

REASONING:
Obviously I need a can that will work with the biggest round I plan on using which means .30 cal. Because of the 3 barrels that I'll be switching between, I figured that a QD mount would be important, and of the quick detach suppressors I've researched, the AAC 762-SD seemed to be well favored and reviewed. (and yes, I got the subtle hint that I should

</span></span></span></span>

The reason I didn't choose the Scar-H, though I like the idea of being able to tune the POI shift and the greater volume w/ less overall length increase, is because of the hassles I might run into trying to get the mounts for it on the three barrels. If I ever wanted to say thread a 10/22 barrel for it, it would be much easier with the standard mount than one that goes over the barrel and thus limits the barrel diameter. Though I would almost like to be convinced to go with the SCAR-H as I only reluctantly decided to go with the 762-SD because of this ease of threading for future barrels and the cost savings. Also, I plan on going with the muzzle break mounts because I don't want the tuning fork ring associated with the Blackout mounts. (Do they make a muzzle break model for the SCAR-H? as opposed to the flash-hider mount?) The other 762-SD advantage is that I can buy mounts for both the m4-1000 and the 762-SD and not have to re-thread my MRP, whereas if I went with the SCAR-H I would have to re-thread my MRP to accept the SCAR-H's threads because the SPR/M4 mount is not officially compatible.

So for my purposes would you guys also go with the 762-SD or would another option come to mind? Your thoughts are welcome. Is there an accuracy/consistency advantage between the two silencers?

My best quote so far for a 762-SD with 3 muzzle breaks (not flash hiders) is $1,200. Do you think I could do better? Do you guys know anyone who might be interested in trading a suppressor for firearms? I have a few for sale, but a direct trade might be simpler if I could find an interested party.

Thanks for your input.

Re: AAC 762-SD reasonings and in stock

I've said it before, I think the 762SD is a best buy - for all the reasons that you stated. The brake mount is great, and they are not yet making one for the SCAR, as far as I know. Once you have a suppressor, you are unlikely to do much shooting without it and can rezero your rifles for suppressed POI - making the POI shift/miter mount issue less important to most people. I like my SPR/M4 very much, but I'd have been as happy with the M4-2000 or M4-1000 if my experience with the 762SD is any indicator.

Still, it boils down to a buy once, cry once issue on your platforms where you would have to rethread for the SCAR. Any 1/2X28 that you own now or later would have to go to ADCO or similar to be rethreaded and the mounts cost more - but then you could run the SCAR H to your hearts content.

My .02 is: Buy the 762SD and don't look back.

Start with Polite Society - Mark is the best, and always willing to talk shop.

By the way, if you haven't tried it, suppress a bolt-gun after you get your can. It's where a suppressor really shines as far as I'm concerned - quieter than any semi-auto platform, nearly zero blowback, tighter groups, and no cleaning hassle! I'm working up a 16 inch Remington 700P in .223 to host the SPR/M4 and it should be a blast to shoot (oh, and that profile that the SPR/M4 and SCAR H share is gonna cost me an extra $65.)

But that is part of the fun of having a can...."Hey, I could run my suppressor on that!"

Re: AAC 762-SD reasonings and in stock

Do Not shoot .22 through it. It will void the warranty and will quickly crud up the can. I feel a .22 should be a dedicated and take apart can. I just got my 762SD in two days ago. It's weird to be able to shoot .308 without hearing protection. I've got the muzzle brake on the .308 and I've got a Blackout coming for my 5.56. I don't think they make the brake for 5.56, but don't quote me on this. I've heard great things about Polite Society. You also have Bryon at Major-Malfunction and Malcolm at Silent Industries. All 3 can be found over on Silencertalk.com Good Luck, Eddie.
