I want one of these for my AR15 to plink steel and shoot 'varmints'. I naturally leaned to the 1-4 and then decided to compare it to the 1-6. Same tube and obj but just 3/4 in longer and 5oz heavier. The part that surprised me is that the 1-6 has a 117.5ft FOV at 100 yds vs the 1-4 with only 94.2 ft. And the 1-6 only has 3/4in more eye relief. Exit pupil at 4x on the 1-4 is 5mm. Exit pupil at 6x on the 1-6 is 4mm so at 4x would assume be close to the 1-4 specs. Or in other words about as bright in low light situations. SO, other than 5oz more weight, why not get the 1-6 if it has more fov and higher avail magnification on demand?

Well I guess thats the way it is! I hadnt checked on comps for many years. And of course 3 bills more for the 1-6. The one thing I dont see in the accupoint specs is the parallax free range. On the equiv leupold 1-6 firedot it is 150 yds!

The 1-4 has a significantly better eyebox on 1x and can get brighter since there’s more fiber optic surface area. People love to compare 1x FOV but it really doesn’t mean anything imo. I think when people think a FOV is good on an lpvo, they really just mean the scope body dissapears which is why everyone drools over the razors FOV when there are a lot of optics out there that meet it. Another way to think about it is to think of a T-2’s FOV. I bet it sucks big time on paper but nobody cares when shooting it.
The 1-6 seems like a very nice optic, but it suffers from the same lack of reticle options that the 1-4 does imo. If trijicon would update both of them with better reticle options, they’d have a real winner imo.

You you're correct thx. the 1-4 and 1-6 are apples to apples as they have the same diameter lenses just one is a tad longer that the other.. Took me a while to refresh my scope 'physics' that I hadnt thought about for a while! The difference is the 1-4 has a significantly larger exit pupil at 1x so that 'floating disk' of eye box is much wider and thicker, which gives one much faster target acquisition. The wider the disk the less the fov but the brighter the image. The accupoints 1-6 parallax is set at 100yds fyi. Not sure about the 1-4, have to ask. might have to look at a few other top brands to compare now..and reticles.

I've never looked through the 1-4 but my 25 eyebox compared well with a razor 1-6 and I thought was better than my SMRS2 1-6.5 and a 1-6 viper I tried. It's kinda splitting hairs though as I found all those scopes easy to get behind at 1x. They all get pretty tight a 6x though.

To me the downside of the 1-6 is the size and weight. A triangle accupoint is the kind of optic you'd put on kiss carbine and it's a bit big and heavy for that. Mine ended up on a rec and while I really like it it will probably end up the odd man out in the optics musical chairs I'm doing. It's my favorites glass out of my mid priced Japan scopes as well.

I didn't go with that brand, but I went with a 1-8x24, and have been very pleased with it for shooting subsonics from my .300 BLK even out to 200 yards (current furthest yardage at my range).
