I am planning on building a 338 Edge and am wondering if I would see a accuracy difference in using a single shot over a repeater. The action will be a custom most likely a Stiller.

I don't think so. Some may disagree because a single shot receiver is more rigid but I wouldn't expect that to make that much difference. FWIW

probably no noticeable difference, however the single shot won't give you any issues with mag length and save you alittle money.

Can you shoot to the accuracy potential of the rifle (very few can)

I've been told the extra actions (cycling,ejecting brass,recoil of the weapon) in the semi auto can throw a bit into the mix but as posted above 60% of the members on forums cant even out shoot some factory rifles but end up with custom rifles anyways..
Honestly you probably wont notice a difference.. Only down side for me is picking up the brass flung 10 ft away..
More money on parts and more parts than a bolt action.
And mag length is a huge issue for me.
Besides bolt actions cooler cause you can be a "Sniper". So all your friends can think your cool

In this context a repeater is a bolt gun which feeds from an internal or external magazine and a single shot is a bolt gun with no magazine that must be manually loaded for each shot. The single shot action usually will not have the bottom port cut for the magazine to feed through (and so will be a little stiffer whether it makes a difference or not).

In all honesty if everything else is equal there is realy no accuracy gain going to a single shot over a repeater in any discipline other than benchrest and even then the repeaters are very accurate. You first must consider how you will use the rifle , if you may want to use it as a repeater at any point then there is no decision to make.

Even if there is some small increase in accuracy with a single shot over a repeater it is not going to be of practical use in a tactical rifle. Many of the smith's that frequent this site have zero trouble putting out very sub 1/2 moa repeaters, and I know that will readily outshoot me.

I'm probably one of those guys, but I wish I had the custom rig!

I agree the difference would be minor. If you selected a repeater with a target port, heavier tang, etc, that would stiffen the action considerably, making it very close to a single shot action in stiffness.
