Agree 100%. If you compared them side by side you would pick the 3.5x everytime.

+2

run a Point blank 8" ZERO with the donut and be done with it.

Center mass to 250yds or so, then hold off.

Re: acog ????????????

I really like the 3x30, but I won't rule out the 3.5x until I can find one to see/use first. My first impression was I don't like the 4x for it's eye relief. It is so big with limiting eye relief I can't see much around it to engage targets I might not see in it's field of view. I can't see clearly threw the scope upon mounting unless I'm just right every time which makes shooting from awkward positions hard. Very difficult for me to use this sight effectively. I wouldn't buy one.

Re: acog ????????????

I use the 4x32 (TA31F) Army issued red chevron and have one of the same model at home. I haven't shot any other models. As far as the 4x32 I don't mind using them but the eye relief is a little short for my liking. As mentioned you have to be right up on the scope. For civilian shooting it doesn't mean much, when I put my uniform and battle rattle on its a problem. My helmet has a mount for NODs on it and I've hit the mount several times with the ACOG.
Its a great optic but could be a little better with eye relief. I got mine for a steal so I'm happy with it. Check out as many models as you can first.

Re: acog ????????????

I'm the opposite, I don't like the donut at all. To me it seems like a great CQB sight, but thats it. The green horseshoe ret. in the TA31 looks good, giving you the best of both worlds, and some of the Chevron ret. look ok. But my favorite is still the TA01 w/ BDC & red crosshairs. You can pin point your round's very nicely, BDC works very good, at night it work's great, and I think it's still the cheapest of all the 4x one's. Although it can be used in a pinch to clear a room, it work's best from 25 yards out. Some put a Doc. reddot on top of them to comp. for this. I would just rather pop on an Aimpoint if I were to clear a house or something like that, and the ACOG for everything else. With both mounted on LaRue QC mount's it's a breeze.
However, more and more I find myself drawn to scope's like the new IOR Pitbull 1&4x or their 1.5-8x, or my next scope the USO SN-4 1.5-6x w/ new green retical.

So . . . If you had a 4x32 as gift, would you take it and use it?

I have been saving for a precision optic (MK6 or Noghtforce) and a 4x32 has been offered for a half day of work.

This will be for carbine courses and DAYTIME work around the house. 308 Carbine with a 308 reticle.

I personally don't mind the short eye relief of the 4x32 variants, but again it all comes down to personal preference. I personally love the chevron in my TA31F and have run it on my work gun, very effective sight.

It's all subjective though so try as many as you can.

per Trijicon, their best glass is the 3.5x35. I have both in 3.5 and 4, you don't notice the difference, the 4x32 is a shorter glass overall, if that matters. I have all their reticles, I like the Horseshoe for quick sight acquisition, but for precision the corsshair reticle.

Depends on which model of ACOG. TA11 series with 2.5" of eye relief or the TA33 with even more eye relief, then yes. For a TA01 with .308 Reticle, I would still do the half day of work but not use it on a .308. 1.5" of eye relief is not enough on any .308. Nice thing about the .308 Reticle/BDC is that it matches up quite well with heavier 5.56 loads.

I have a TA33 which I prefer because of the eye relief. I can use this with up to 6" of eye relief. The 4x power didn't allow me to use the Binion sighting system (both eyes open) as well because the scope had a much more limited eye relief range and needed to be mounted a lot closer to the shooter with less eye relief. This closer mounting made the scope and its reticle much more prominent in the shooters view and it made more difficult to shoot with both eyes open and for rapid target acquisition.

Thanks.

Might work a different angle on the deal. Don't own a 5.56 AR. Just 308s.
