Ive been using the Surgeon action wrench for some time now and found it to be brilliant, that was until I made s**t of it yesterday on a very stubborn Remmy 700. I went out today and made a wraparound wrench. My question is, do you guys think this is a better way to go, better than the Surgeon on stubborn barrels.

Re: Action wrench question

I don't think the Surgeon was made to be used on factory Remingtons that are glued in there with whatever damn compound Remington uses and then a little rust too. The Surgeon wrenches are for Surgeons and other customs that have custom tubes properly installed and do not require a monkey with a 10' cheater bar for removal.

For the stock Rem 700s, get a wrench that clamps to the outside of the action.

Re: Action wrench question

Also Darrell Hollands wrench for the Remington 700 which fits from the rear of the action will break loose the most stubborn 700 actions which for I dont know what reason, they apply some type of sealant/glue to. It is machined on the end so you can apply the right amount of torque when you reassemble with a socket and torque wrench. I believe it's Holland gunsmithing and shooting supply. Good luck

Yes!! You're asking for trouble trying to remove a factory barrel with a port wrench. With a real tight barrel you will even need to watch what you are doing with an inline wrench. Your best bet to keep things from going wrong in removing factory barrels is a wrap around receiver wrench. Use the other two when putting the barrel back on or removing custom barrels, not nearly as tight.

Re: Action wrench question

i have the surgeon, holland, and BAT wrenches. the only thing that will keep any of them from twisting the really stubborn receivers is a little heat. i use a plumbers torch and it works fine. when you get a little smoke from the loc-tite melting its ready to go.

Re: Action wrench question

Have a Holland inline wrench with a cut to make it fit the surgeons. Love it. Guess HateCA has the approved answer for your super stubborn r700 barrels though.
