Here is a question that has been rattling around in my head for years now.
As a NYC Firefighter and Veteran if you have to work on Memorial or Veteran's Day you will get the same amount of hours worked in comp-time to use over the year. To qualify you had to be on active duty for at least two years during war time (set by vet's admin). If you were/are a reservist you had to have been activated for more than 90 days (Not Including Training), and gotten an Expeditionary Medal.
My Background: USN Acitve Duty 95' to 98'. Served on board the USS Kearsarge LHD-3. Spent 55 days off the coast of Africa during the Zaire's take over by the Condgo, and the genocide in Sierra Leone (NEO 2500+ Civilians). http://www.kearsarge.navy.mil/site%20pages/HISTORY.aspx
The Other Guy: In my firehouse there is a guy. He is a Marine Reservist, and has been for 8 years now. He has never been deployed or activated! His MOS is something related to Comm's.

The Drama: How can this guy call himself a Marine just for Graduating Boot Camp, and question my service to say I shouldn't qualify for Vet's Status?

Re: Active vs Reservist

You did your time, you've got nothing to prove. Tell him to go fuck himself, and if he doesn't like it, he can pound sand. You were active duty, day in and day out serving your country. He isn't. Enough said.
