Hey fellas, inquiring for those that have filled the void in a PSS stock using either BB or lead shot.

How much weight did filling the void completely in add to the overall stock weight?

Thanks!

Re: Adding weight to PSS?

In shooting benchrest, some of the guys make a tapered weight of 3+ pounds to go in the butt stock. This gets them from 10.5 pounds to 13.5 pounds. Most that I know of are made from lead shot and epoxy. They make a clay slug that fits the recess then plaster of paris that for a mold for the epoxy. Different people do it different ways.

When I did this to my Rem I added about two pounds, but could have gone to three. You can mix lead shot or BBs in with the expoy. If you've got the glued on factory buttpad on your stock, freezing it before you try to work it off with a sharp putty knife will make life much easier. Just go slow.

I did lead shot and it completely changed the rifle for the better, the addition of a LimbSaver pad made the rifle a cream puff to shoot and later in life when you get a AICS or McM A5 with sniper fill it will seem light, I recommend against using BB's due to the fact it will become impossible to add a Karsten cheek piece, with lead shot drilling thru is no problem.
