Need to buy a good-quality small tripod to hold (in prone) my Swaro Field Guide and my Swaro 80 spotting scope. Any recommendations for tripod and mount, the small pods at the local camera store all seem cheesy?

Ashbury/Vectronix and Gitzo GT2840C are too expensive, table top camera tripods are too flimsy. I have a PRS small that works well as a rifle platform but I need a little more stability (leg spread) for the heavy spotting scope.

Thanks.

Mate,
Have you considered the Precision Rifle Solutions tripods? They're a small business that make a few solid pods in different sizes. I use the Medium tripod with SSP2 cradle, but have one of the LRF bands inbound for my Swaro LRF.

The small tripod might be a good option for you.
Maybe shoot platypus on the hide here a PM and see if he can help out.

+1 on PRS products.

Also, the Manfrotto (190 and 055) can be placed very low to the ground by adjusting the angle of the legs. Many variations of the Manfrotto units available from vendors here on The Hide (ie: Doug @ Cameraland). Good pics available here also and can be accessed with a search.

Another vote for the PRS tripods! While you already have the small, the medium tripod will do exactly what you want to do with them in terms of your LRF and spotter. It will get as low as around 6" with the legs "grounded" in their lowest position and as high as around 40"+, as well as giving you more stability than the small tripod.

A couple pics of the Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 with 222 head. Really solid unit that goes pretty low if you need to.
