I recall reading something on here about AI's being converted to .223 but I can not find it again. Is this a thing?

Short answer: nope.
It has been discussed at length on here, and the long and short of it is that AI isn't interested in doing the work, and it looks like the cost (for a custom bolt body) for one of the more talented aftermarket 'smiths is prohibitive.

Since AI does not provide a bolt face for .223'', you can use .308'' bolt face and convert a Creedmoor case into .223''...
However, you still need a gunsmith to convert the barrel with a proper chamber.

22 creed...i have one for my AI...way more performance than 223, but also harder on barrels...also cant get cheap brass like for 223
