I currently have a S&B 4X16X42 PMII mounted on a AI AW via a factory dovetail 28 MOA 34MM mount. Can I decrease the gap between the barrel and scope bell with a 18 MOA 34MM mount? I currently have a half inch gap. How much will the 18 MOA mount take out of the half inch gap?

Will the S&B 4X16X42 combined with the 18 MOA dovetail mount have enough elevation to get to 1,000 yards?

I've got the same exact scope/rifle set up. The 28moa forward cant will be perfect for your needs. It'll pretty much bottom the elevation at 100yds and give you plenty of room to get out to 1000yds.

I only became concerned when reading about how far some members on the hide are willing to go to get their scopes to almost touch the barrel in order to achieve the most accuracy. I am one of the few who do not like my scope almost touching the barrel.

I was watching Top Sniper today and was surprised at how many of the rifles had a large to very large gap between barrel and scope. It seems that they are more concerned about proper positioning of the eye piece as you (Captain Kirk) stated.

I have noticed that AI AW rifles generally have a larger gap than conventional rifles. It seems to be even larger with the pic rail models. The German military have a giant gap on their AI AWM rifles for some reason.

I will will leave the mount alone if decreasing the gap does nothing for accuracy. This was my primary motivation. Thanks!

I guess my original question should have been about the 45 moa mount and not the 18 moa mount. What would the end result of using this mount be? Sorry, had to ask.

Those mounts are really designed for a 5-25x56. Use the 18 moa mount that you have.

I have a 28 moa scope mount. I was only considering a different mount if tightening the gap gives better accuracy. I think I am GTG with my current set up from what the Captain said.
