AI AX.308 barrel length question

Hi,

I will probably be purchasing an AX.308 soon and was wondering what barrel length to get. If any one has any reccomendations and/or explanations that would be great. The options on the website are 20, 24, and 26 inches. I will mostly be just using it for bench and prone shooting at the range and will not be running around with it much. I will mostly just be working on my marksmanship with it.

20" will reduce barrel harmonics (easier to find an accurate load), 26" will maximize velocity (ultimately requiring less holdover and reducing total wind drift). 308 isn't an awesome ELR round to begin with, though, so the benefit of a long barrel is dubious.

I'd get the 24" or 26", you can always make it shorter. I've got the 24" bartliend and I'm getting 2700 FPS with the 185 gr Juggernaut.

I have a 20" and run a 30-P1. It is on the edge of becoming unwieldy.

26" with a can would be like carrying around a pole vault.

20" tubes are very popular when adding a suppressor. 24" is by far the most popular.

24's also seem to give you an edge when shooting over 800 yds...

16's are just plain fun, especially if adding a covert suppressor.
