The usss rifle is in an ax aics, not at. With ax chassis banging at the 1500-1700 range, I doubt cost is a factor. There are alot of good chassis in the 9-1200 range.
There are plenty of solid functional chassis like mdt, mpa, mcree and PDC for the old school cool factor. Jae, cadex and ai are pretty Gucci priced, so I'd say it's feature set that was chosen.
I ignorantly submit that buying the AI AT may also buy down political risk as one can point to its use worldwide by military and police should its acquisition or employment be questioned.

The USSS guys photographed at the Trump rally had 700s in ATs. Also NF 7x35s so Imagine they could choose whatever they want. I have seen AXs as well.
Look up the Mark 7 Mod 7 comes up as a marine sniper rifle system. These rifles are exactly the same but in black. They are 300 Win Mag. They will have utilised a US made Remington 700 action which as we know if the reason the AI rifles haven’t won any contracts for the US military…. Hehe
FWIW, vanishingly few agencies are using AICS'd 700s. If an agency is using AIs, they're going to be AXs or AT-LEs. And AIs make up a significantly large percentage of LE sniper rifles.

I would be surprised if it were to be true. A lot of state units seem to deploy more traditional stock based tools.
I have no numbers to quote, but anecdotally from what I've seen in LE sniper competitions, there are probably fewer non-AI rifles of all manufacturers combined than there are AIs. My wild guess would be that they have somewhere between 30-40% of the market in the US.
This past year I recall seeing one agency with DD Delta 5s, one with Tikka T3Xs, one with DTAs, one with Larue OBRs, two with unknown 700 clones, and two with AR setups...compared to maybe two or three times as many AIs in total. They certainly don't own the entire market, but they're like Glock and LE duty pistols - they dominate the market space and have for a long time, with good cause.
Competitions don’t necessarily reflect what individual departments purchase. AIs are fairly high end package deals, I the news you see example from big fairly well funded teams, most are not.
While AI's have a stront following in the LE community, they are more of a rarity due to one simple aspect: Cost. Most agencies have limited budgets so a AI is generally passed over for cheaper alternatives. I purchased my AI ATLE with my own money vs carrying the FN A5M that was the standard issue (at the time). I specifically chose the ATLE due to the full polymer chassis skin. Lying prone in sub-zero temps, or deploying when the rifle is cold as hell from sitting in the back of my vehicle, makes it slightly more comfortable to hold and maneuver. I love my AI and will never sell it. It just fits me and I shoot it very well.
Agee they are a great platform. My only AI is an ATX chassis for my Anschutz, but it creates an outstandingly stable platform and I may be buried with it
