Gunsmithing AI mag Front Plate Removal

I need to modify a couple Short Action mags removing the front stiffener plates.
How best to remove the bottom plate for diss assembly?
Any suggestions for removing the plate?

Drill through the 2 spot welds and the plate should come out easily. Then you will need to fill in where you drilled. Most I've seen have welded it.

I clamped a strip of 7 ga or 1/4" aluminum inside the mags and used a mig to fill in the holes. The aluminum keeps the weld from dripping into the mag, where it would be a pita to grind.

Do I need to get bold with a thin screwdriver to get the bottom off to take it apart?
