AI rifle grip to trigger doesn't fit?

A few days ago I had the chance to shoot a family member's AI AW rifle in 308 Win. I'm used to shooting Remington style and McMillan A5 stocks and found the AI AW very cramped in the grip to trigger area! I found this to be somewhat surprising since the thumbhole stock would seem to accommodate a wider range of hand sizes than Rem or A5 stocks. I don't have monster hands but at 6'3", it seemed to be a bit cramped.

Anybody else have this experience and shy away from the AI because of it?

It works well for me but I always advise folks that weapon ergonomics are like shoe sizes: what's great for one person might be completly intollerable for another.

Grip length is the main reason you couldn't give me an AI/AICS.

Mouse gun trigger actuation is even worse.

I find they handle like M4s, which is my baseline.
