AI Scope mount ?

The screw heads are always supposed to be on the left (opposite side as ejection port) and the lug us to be to the rear, correct?

On my AI 45moa mounts the screw heads are on the left and the lug is toward the muzzle.

As long as you keep the mounting screws on the left side of the rifle the recoil lug will end up where it should be. That is toward the muzzle. The dovetail will allow you to mount the scope base in only two spots properly, he pic rail will allow you anywhere there is a slot.
