Gunsmithing AIAE Go/No Go Gauge Size?

Re: AIAE Go/No Go Gauge Size?

Go and No-Go Gauges are based around the chamber, so the size will vary based on the caliber it is chambered in. A lot of people like to get the gauges at the same time as the reamer so they match, but I don't believe this is necessary. You can use a .308 go/no-go gauge set on any of the cartridges based on the same case, ie .243, .260, 7mm-08 et al. You can buy them from Midway or from Pacific Tool & Gauge.

This is for a .308 chambered AIAE. Was looking into getting a set of Forester Match Go/No Go gauges and they are offered in .001" increments for the .308. Looking for the correct size based of AI specs if someone has them. Thanks

Works for me.

Just curious in all the days you've swapped your barrels....have they ever once not been in spec when put back on?

This is a great point. On barrels with a shoulder if you torque them back the same, they should be just fine, if you wanted to double verify, you could put an index mark on it before removal, and then just tighten it back up to where it lines up again..

I just torque my AW barrels to 100# every time and call it good. I have a set of gauges but have never opened them.
