I just received my 10-round AICS mags in 223. I'm running them in CDI Precision's bottom metal, with an HS stock, and Savage short action.

The mags sit too low. The bottom of the bolt barely engages the rim of the first round. And then about halfway into the chamber, the cartridge slips under the bolt, and in turn the bolt tries to fold the cartridge in half!

What is the best way to remedy this?

    1. File the inside face of the feed lips to allow the rounds to sit higher?

    2. Have Jeff inlet the stock so the bottom metal sits higher?

    3. Talk to Jeff about a longer mag release which might hold the magazine higher?

    4. Try something else?

Any opinions on this problem would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I can get them to feed properly if I push them up just slightly.

Are longer mag releases relatively easy to find? Can I order longer release levers somewhere, or would I just contact Jeff and have one built?

    Thanks for the advice.

You might want to check your mag release. Jeff puts 2 holes in the mag release. Yours may be assembled in the top hole. If so you can put it in the bottom hold to raise the mag.

    I hope that made sense,

Whatever you do don't file the feed lips. I did that... not good. I've got a savage 10 with the cdi dbm also. tried moving the mag release up to the other hole but the release doesn't sit right that way. Best thing i've found to do is to close the bolt, insert and empty mag tight to the bottom of the bolt and make a mark where the top of the mag release hits the magazine. Take out the magazine and file a small groove in the back of the magazine in that spot. the sharp edge of the mag release will catch that groove and hold the mag in pretty tight. They feed perfectly after doing this mod (except for the one i mangled by trying to file down the feed lips...)

The longer latch is a great idea and would be a legit fix, but i also use the 308 aics mags in this gun and those feed fine as it is so i don't want to have to change out the mag release every time i switch barrels.
