I’ve got a Valhalla 300 Win Mag on a Rem 700 LA and XLR Evolution Chassis with (1) Five round magazine. I’m shooting 215gr Berger Hybrids if it matters.

I know it’s not ideal but it’s my best choice for a while. I want to use it for PRS matches (mostly local). I’m curious as to thoughts on having just a single (5) round Mag. I did find a (10) Mag at Brownells for $137 but it looks massive.

-Does anyone use 300 Win Mag for this type of shooting?
-How do you run your Magazines and ammo?
-Would you recommend a (10) round mag? Several (5) rounders? Or just single feed them after the first (5)?

I have done a PRS match with my .300 WM just for fun. I was limited to 5rd mags being that I run CIP length mags. Depending on what length magazine you run if you can get 10rd mags, get them. It will make your life easier versus the smaller ones. Running a heavy hitting magnum already slows you down a bit, even with a good brake. Having extra mag changes defanitly dont help things. Even though its not ideal running a long action magnum and people will advice against it, if thats all you have take your rig out and have a good time with it. Thats what its all about...

Do it. $137 for a 10rd would not be worth it to me. What’s keeping you from doing mag changes if necessary? Either way, compete with the winmag,if for nothing else, just to annoy the guys shooting boutique cartridges. I bet you would be surprised how well you do. A buddy of mine shot Woody’s here in NC a few years ago with a 28” barreled winmag and placed well enough to win off the prize table...

One of my buddies (a very good PRS shooter) dragged his 300 win mag out to a one day PRS match. Partly for laughs, partly to prep for the ELR match. I think he took 2nd place that day. He was running 5 round magazines and plastered the whole side of his gun with the SAP +2 round holders so he could single feed after the first 5.

I wouldn't want to do it, but it's possible for sure.
