I was wondering how long you can load a round (OAL) before you run out of room. In other words what is the inside length of the magazine.

Un modded 308 mags oal is about 2.830 or so. Take out the reinforcement strip and go to 2.950".

I dont know if it would any different, but what about internal mag length for a .223AI?
Here's my issue: My Savage has an internal mag but it is too short to allow me to load my 223 with 75 A-Maxs to the OAL I want. I was hoping to covernt to AICS mags using CDI parts. I need an internal mag length of approx. 2.5" for a Savage short action. Will the CDI conversion get me to this OAL?

The AI .223 magazine part #6616 ID/COL is 2.5", will allow the .223 with the VLD's very nicely. Hope this helps.
