Alabama

Re: Alabama

So far the food has been to die for. Some of the best catfish I've ever had and those fried dill pickle chips, YUMM!

And you're right queequeg, these southern belles have some of the wonderful accents and wonderful accents that I've ever seen... er, I mean heard.

What is a Zaxby? 1st night we ended up at Top of The River where they make some awesome catfish. Tonight we hit up another local spot called Cooter Brown's Rib Shack. Had a half rack of some of the best ribs I ever had. Seasoned with a dry rub and slow cooked to perfection. Washed it all down with two 32oz. mason jars of Budlight.

I definitely prefer the sense of the "high" south that coastal Georgia offers (think Savannah) to the inland and western accents. KY is also nice in some places, but I find much of it to be contrived in an effort to be more southern than we actually are, and much of the eastern KY dialect is just plain unintelligible sometimes.

JRose

I grew up in the Ozark, Skipperville area of Dale County and never got into the sweet tea not my thing.
Do not forget the the hushpuppies with your catfish or crawdads. If you where 5 or 6 moths earlier you could get a souther favorite boiled peanuts, a big hot bag and some beer and all is good in the world.

I grew up in Dothan, and lived in Ozark for a short time.

Re: Alabama

Oh shit another one of us Krazo people. One day I may move back when I retire. Not much changes when I go home every couple of years.
Then you may know the now gone Ice House in Ozark and the now gone Seafood Junction Between Midland City and Dothan. Great catfish and hushpippies.

Re: Alabama

Breakfast takes on religious proportions in the South. If you cannot find a mom and pop restaurant that suits you, the Crackerbarrel franchise does a good job. Matter of fact, when Banshee, Slickrick, and I want to have a big breakfast, Crackerbarrel is the place to be.

A couple of months ago, I got up about 6am and had the day to myself. I had a good night's sleep and was ready to enjoy myself since I was off work and out of school. I drove to Crackerbarrel(5 min from my house). I had the Uncle Herschel's Breakfast. Crikey!! They kept bringing on the chow. When I got done eating, I had to go home and go back to bed. I was so stuffed I couldn't breathe.

I posted this before, but it bears repeating:

You are only a stranger once.
The tea is sweet, the ham salty, and the women are both.

Glad to have you, fella.
