aluminum base?

Re: aluminum base?

I heard that an alluminum base will expand defferently than the steel reciever when it starts to heat up and can cause some twist that impacts accuracy. I'm new to precision rifle so I haven't experienced this myself and I have an aluminum rail on my 700. But that is what I heard; maybe someone on here can fill us in on if that is true or not.

Not true. As an analogy, many auto manufacturers use steel blocks and aluminum heads where maximum heat expansion and cool down is present, a rifle will (generally) not reach even close those temps. You will be fine using a aluminum base with steel rings, the scope is aluminum as well.
