aluminum gun case

I received a lot positive feedback in the motivational pictures thread regarding my aluminum gun case , so I'm making a separate thread to chronicle the making of it .
I'll be posting photos of it being machined soon. I have some other things I'm going to work on first on the after hours of my day job .

I got a lot of inspiration from death stranding for the design of the box also from Aero space parts that I have seen

saving this box idea for when I get an ai oh and authenic 24k gold plated with a dry ice machine inside to product the smoke for when Its opened .just need the music from raiders of the lost arc not very different from the idea I had for a smaller version for a suppressor case it will be a themed party still thinking a laser light show would be in line with the whole idea but that might be a little much .

Am I missing the point of making it large enough for the pistol to fit upside down "upright" like that instead of just laying it flat to minimize the amount of material and machine time it takes?

my day jobs scrap guy showed up one day with some big drops , he sold me a block for pretty cheap , this is the best thing I could think of to do with it . you are entirely correct . the box is sorta just meant to look cool and not be 100% practical

What type of aluminum you going to use? Try 5052 to add a bit of corrosion resistance. 6061 is probably cheaper, but I like the 5052 for things like this.

I was thinking about not only making this box but also one that is much thinner and wider like a traditional hand gun case . you guys think people would be interested in that ? what a bout a full rifle length one ? how much would yall be willing to pay for such a gun case 500$ 800$ if it was really guchi ?

honestly ide love a rifle length case......however ide suspect youd need to add another 0 to your $500-800 estimate.....that machine time aint cheap.

I think you'll have a hard time competing against existing ones like Pelican. double scoped rifle case for $200. Its water proof, locking, airline approved, etc. Why would I spend $500 pluss?

I drew up a 60" long 14" wide shell and ran mass properties on it . with 1/4" walls the gun case would be 83 LB's . that's not gonna work

With a good rifle, scope, bipod, some mags and ammo you'd be topping out over 100 lbs. Good for working out but for flying to a match not so much. You'd have to buy an extra seat.

hey yall I just wanted to give an update and tell ya what's going on with the box. I have decided not to go forward with the design pictured above . its to un wieldy and bulky. I do have a piece of Aluminum that is as big as the middle section though . so I think I'm just going to save it for another project or saw it up into slices for smaller parts or something .


I did redesign the case though into a thinner and lighter version , this is something I'm going to make and I'm exploring the idea of putting it into production. so that's what's been going on . IDK when I'll get to machining the new box . hoping soon .
