Am I an idiot? Probably. Surgeon Action Wrench question

I recently acquired a 308 barrel (Yes, the caliber of the gods.)

It’s for a Surgeon action.

I have the Surgeon action wrench, but it seems the action wrench is only intended for the installation of a barrel. Not removal.

Is this correct?

It does both, but they are not the most robust wrenches.

I have never used a Surgeon action wrench, but if I understand it correctly, it goes in the bolt (lugs) raceway between the action's locking lugs and can be used for either removal or installation.

I have a bunch of Rem 700 pattern wrenches and that's how they work. They are different from the Surgeon, but I think they all work the same way.

It turns out that I am an idiot.

At first glance, it looked like the edge of the wrench was hitting on the rail.

Upon further inspection, this is not the case.
