My brother loaded up about 5000+ rounds of 223 , he isn't the brightest & that's my fault for not double checking everything . All the ammo he loaded is having headspace issues & will not seat all the way . Is it possible to fix this or is he catching a beating & pulling bullets for the rest of his retarded life ?

Re: Am I Screwed ?

You can buy a body only sizer and bump the shoulder correctly. I've done it once or twice on a loaded .308 and it's worked fine. I don't know what the long term safety issues would be, so don't try is without researching further. Like I said, I might use that technique for a few, but I would think doing it on 5000 is just tempting fate.

There are a couple of threads on the subject of sizing loaded rounds, I'd start there. If it's safe, it would be a hellva lot easier than pulling 5000 bullets. Yikes.

I'd still buy the bullet pulled and beat your brother with it.

Or if your running it through an AR:

I've used the small base die on about a hundred that didn't get sized correctly and had been sitting in my reloading room for years. Worked great and I didn't have to pull bullets. Wear safety glasses and don't put your face right over the press when resizing. Nothing comes into contact with the primer and I can't think of anything that could cause ignition of the cartridge. If you think about it, when you are seating bullets you are stuffing a bullet into a primed and charged case and don't think twice about it.

If you are interested I have an extra small base die that I will drop in the mail if you send me $30.

Re: Am I Screwed ?

Let me get this straight, he loaded FIVE THOUSAND (5000) rounds without testing firing at least a couple first....or at least ONE round first?!?! Wow.....guess he will learn something on this one. :)

Re: Am I Screwed ?

Ouch 5k, thats no fun, I'd buy the die then ask him to do it, there shouldn't be any issue that I can think of, and I've done that a couple of times.

But I admit I did somthing similar. Was working up loads for my AR-10 for XTC matches using brass from Jeff Bartlet, single firing the loads and worked up a real nice load of 44.5gr of Varget and a 175 SMK, so loaded 2 .30 cal cans full of it in 20 round boxes I then proceeded to shoot it across the course. Well The issue was that I didn't realize that my dies didn't bump my shoulder back enough so I had jams like crazy. I also didn't test that load in sitting or prone rapid, so I got hammered hard by recoil and the fact that I'd set my rear aperature sight up while shooting on the bench and it was to far back for being slung up. Needless to say i leanred the hard way always test somthing out in the condition your going to shoot before using it. Tore it all apart bumped the shoulders back, then assumed I could use it for palma. Well long story short it keyholed at 1000yds, so I had to tear it apart for the second time. My brother still gives me crap about that years later.
