Any one else experience ogive differences between lots of amax bullets? I'm specifically talking about the 140gr 6.5mm bullets I've been dealing with. I developed my load using an amax bullet with a length of .765" from ogive to base and was seating the bullet to have a length of 2.1985" ogive to bullet base giving an oal of 2.81".

Now I am out of those bullets from that lot and purchased 700 more from midway and what came in is from 2 lots. Each of the bullets from the 3 lots has a different length from the base of the bullet to the ogive. For example one of the new lots has a length of .7525 and the other is even shorter. Am I going to have to develop a new loads for each lot?

Today I went out with my known good load using the new bullets seated at 2.1985" ogive to base of bullet and an oal of roughly 2.825". These rounds shot terrible even though everything was the exact same except cartridge oal. What is the deal here? How can I get these new bullets to shoot as well as the ones from my original lot?

Thanks

That's going to occur in every different lot you get. Some are longer some have a different ogive. That's why you buy in bulk. If you love to shoot the amax, as I sure as hell do, bite the bullet and cough up 350$ and get you a thousand of them all I'm the SAME lot. Trust me, it makes life much easier

The thing that gets me is how different the factory loaded rounds are in ogive length and oal. In one box of ammo the oal varies from 2.79ish to 2.81ish but the factory load always shoots well in my rifle.

However, my handloads are more consistent le.gtg wise but the oal is slightly different and the load goes from 2/3 moa to 1.5 moa. At the range I could swap loads and shoot a group and the difference was spot on each time.
