Although I have experience reloading the 223, 308 and others, I am new to reloading the 50 BMG. I had a few questions about Case Overall Length.

First, I have 3 different bullets I want to reload. The Hornady 750 grain AMAX, the Barnes 647 grain TAC-X BT and new production 690 grain steel core from South Africa.

In measuring the maximum possible case length, that is the bullet touching the barrel riflings to the base of the case, the following measurements were recorded:

AMAX - 5.734"
Barnes - 5.412"
690 grain SA - 5.530"

First Question - On average, what is the distance most reloaders are setting the bullets back from the riflings, that is the "jump" distance?

Second Question - On the TAC-50, and maximum overall case length that can fit in the factory magazine is approximately 5.560" If I set the AMAX round in the case far enough to still use the magazine, the bullet would "jump" 0.174". Is this excessive? Have others reloaded using these approximate parameters with acceptable results?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts and input!
